Tamboti is a small camp on the Timbavati River and the western boundary area, approximately 2 km east of Orpen in SANParks’ description. The river, dry open plains and tented format define the destination.
A safari-tented satellite camp on the Timbavati River corridor, close to Orpen Gate, with a bird hide and shared kitchens but no on-site reception.
Tamboti is a small camp on the Timbavati River and the western boundary area, approximately 2 km east of Orpen in SANParks’ description. The river, dry open plains and tented format define the destination.
SANParks explicitly identifies Tamboti as safari-tented accommodation only. Two communal kitchens and two ablution blocks support the stay, while the absence of a reception office means the camp should be approached as a satellite base, not a full-service lodge.
The official page lists guided bush walks and game drives with trained field guides. Confirm the current departure arrangements and availability; the page distinguishes the camp’s activities from the broader park activity catalogue.
The surrounding area is described as good for game viewing: zebra and wildebeest occur along the Orpen–Satara drive, while giraffe, impala, warthog and elephant are common. The route towards Olifants may produce lion, cheetah and leopard, but sightings remain variable.
The central landscape is described as dry open plains, with tall acacias and marula, red bush-willows and small rock gardens containing aloes and Barberton daisies around camp. This makes botanical observation part of the tented-camp experience.
Two kitchens, two ablution blocks, a communal boma and an in-camp bird hide are listed. There is no shop, restaurant, ATM or reception office, so visitors need to bring supplies and understand that Tamboti is not a retail or fuel stop.
SANParks places Tamboti about 4 km from Orpen Gate and describes roughly ten minutes to the camp, with extra time for wildlife viewing. Its proximity does not remove the need to observe gate and park access rules.
Plan food, equipment and communication before entering; no reception office or retail service is listed. The official five things to seek begin with tamboti trees and baboon, reinforcing that the camp itself is a useful observation setting as well as a sleeping base.
