Setting
Northern borderland confluence
Pafuri Border Camp lies in Kruger’s northernmost part, near the confluence of the Luvuvhu and Limpopo and in close proximity to Punda Maria. It is an access and wilderness destination at the borderland edge, not a conventional rest camp.
Stay format
Exclusive bush-camp booking
SANParks lists Pafuri among its bush-lodge destinations and provides a structured activity programme. The camp’s remote setting means visitors should treat the stay as a booked wilderness experience, with access and activity rules confirmed in advance.
Activities
A full guided programme
The official page lists a ten-hour day bush walk, ten-hour day safari, three-hour morning walk, three-hour night drive, three-hour sunrise drive and three-hour sunset walk. Each has minimum numbers, departure times and age limits, so families must match the chosen product to the group.
Wildlife
From tracks to nocturnal emergence
The morning and sunset walks are designed to notice birds, trees and details often missed from a vehicle, while the night drive follows nocturnal emergence and spotlight viewing. Pafuri therefore offers both close-foot interpretation and vehicle-based safari, not only a border photo stop.
Landscape
Limpopo–Luvuvhu edge
The confluence setting gives Pafuri a distinct northern riverine and borderland identity. Its northernmost position and proximity to Punda Maria make it a gateway-style destination for exploring a part of Kruger that should not be reduced to generic big-five marketing.
Facilities
Activity-led visitor experience
SANParks lists a reception, museum and swimming pool for Pafuri. Activity descriptions also specify included breakfast, lunch, tea, coffee, rusks, snacks or cold drinks depending on the product; confirm current arrangements when booking.
Access
Punda Maria orientation
The official contact is via Punda Maria Rest Camp, which reflects Pafuri’s operational relationship with the northern access network. Use current SANParks directions and contact details for arrival, border-area requirements and any activity transfer arrangements.
Planning
Age and group rules matter
Day walks and walks have minimum group sizes and exclude children under 12; the day safari and drives exclude children under 6, according to SANParks. Select the activity first, then confirm group size, departure, meals and current availability rather than treating all six products as interchangeable.
