The current SANParks index lists Letaba as a main rest camp. Its developed visitor base includes a restaurant, shop, pool, picnic area and reception services alongside overnight accommodation.
Letaba’s official page lists guided walks and game drives, Bush Braais and Breakfasts, the Letaba Elephant Hall, a riverside camp walk, Masorini Ruins about 38 km west, Matambeni Bird Hide about 10 km north, a seasonal Kids Educational Programme, the pre-booked Olifants Wilderness Trail, the weather-sensitive Mananga 4x4 Adventure Trail and wildlife films except Sundays.
SANParks says most of Kruger’s larger mammals occur in the Letaba vicinity, while rhino is not a particular strength there. Elephant are especially associated with the riverbed; waterbuck and buffalo are plentiful, and sightings can occur from within camp.
Letaba is a riverine, well-foliated camp with sycamore fig, impala lily, common coral tree, lala palm and leadwood. Away from the river the surrounding vegetation is mopane shrubland.
The page lists an information centre, restaurant, conference venue, cafeteria, shop, laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, pool, cutlery-and-plates hampers, basic first aid and a perimeter day-visitor picnic area. A slimline ATM is available in the shop and cellular reception is listed.
The official road approach runs via Polokwane, the R71, Tzaneen, Phalaborwa and Phalaborwa Gate. Letaba is 51 km from the gate; SANParks estimates six to seven hours from central Gauteng to the gate and about two hours from gate to camp.
The Elephant Hall, bird hide and Masorini are separate listed experiences with their own distances. Check current opening, booking and weather-sensitive trail arrangements with SANParks, and allow extra time for wildlife viewing on the internal route.
