Activities and attractions

Setting

Camp character

Crocodile Bridge is a small camp in the south-eastern corner of Kruger, on the northern bank of the Crocodile River. Its position at the entrance gate makes the arrival and departure setting part of the experience.

Stay format

Accommodation format

SANParks places Crocodile Bridge in the Main Rest Camps group. Unlike a remote bush camp, it combines overnight accommodation with a gate-side reception, shop, fuel and day-visitor picnic function.

Activities

Named activities and interpretation

The official activity list names guided bush walks, trained-guide game drives and the pre-booked Lebombo Eco Trail. The trail is an overnight 4x4 eco activity, so it should not be presented as an unbooked self-drive attraction.

Wildlife

What SANParks records for the area

SANParks describes the surrounding country as strong game-viewing habitat and an area where visitors may pursue the Big Five. It records both rhino species, nearby giraffe, zebra and antelope, plus regular records of lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena along the fence.

Landscape

Vegetation and setting

The camp sits in knob-thorn/marula savannah on basalt soils, with round-leafed teak and sweet grazing grass. Westward the vegetation changes to Delagoa thorn thicket on Ecca shale, while the Lebombo range lies to the east.

Facilities

Current camp facilities

The current page lists reception information, a shop with a small takeaway section, laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, cutlery-and-plates hampers on enquiry, basic first aid and a basic day-visitor picnic area. It notes no ATM facility.

Access

Approach and gate orientation

The road approach is through Nelspruit, Malelane and Komatipoort, then the R571 to Crocodile Bridge Gate. SANParks places the camp right at the gate and estimates five to six hours from central Gauteng to the gate.

Planning

What to confirm before travel

Use Crocodile Bridge as a gate-side base but allow time for the game-viewing drive beyond the entrance. Confirm the pre-booked Lebombo Eco Trail, gate requirements, fuel arrangements and current facilities before travel.
